A SMALL GUIDE TO FORMATS

What fits
your next step?

More formats are not always better. What matters is what you want to do with your file.

FormatA good fit forWorth knowingChoose a file
WAVEditing your recordingsUncompressed PCM audio. Larger than MP3, ready to use in an editor.
PNGGraphics and transparencyLossless image compression. Usually larger than JPEG for photographs.
JPEGSharing and publishing photosSmaller files with adjustable quality. Transparent areas become white.
WebPImages for your websiteSupports transparency and compact files. Output support depends on your browser.

Audio input depends on the formats your browser can decode, such as MP3, WAV, AAC or FLAC. This tool does not encode MP3 or convert video.

Is Brite Convert free?

Yes. You can use the tools without paying or registering. There is no subscription or payment required to download your result.

Does my file get uploaded anywhere?

No. Conversion happens locally in your browser. Visiting the website loads the normal website assets, but your selected file is never sent to the server.

Which audio formats can I use?

That depends on your browser. MP3 and WAV work in many current browsers, while AAC and FLAC support varies by device. If a file cannot be opened, you will see an error message. Output is always WAV with 16 bit PCM.

How large can my file be?

The converter accepts audio up to 200 MB and images up to 30 MB. Recordings can be up to 20 minutes long; images can have up to 40 megapixels and 16384 pixels on either edge. We also limit memory use. Devices with limited memory may need a smaller file.

Will conversion improve the quality?

No. Conversion cannot restore lost detail. WAV adds no lossy audio compression. JPEG and WebP can lose image detail when saved again.

What happens to transparency and metadata?

PNG and WebP can preserve transparent areas. For JPEG, those areas become white. Images are redrawn; original metadata such as camera details and location is not carried over. Animated images are not exported as animations.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes, in a current browser. Large files still need memory and processing time. Keep the page open while it works. If conversion fails, try a smaller file.

Why is my new WAV larger than my MP3?

MP3 stores compressed audio. PCM WAV stores the individual samples without compression. A larger file can be useful for editing, but does not contain any extra detail from the original recording.
